Dogs & Cats of Brown Co. Human Society Awarded $10,000 Grant

Dogs and cats at the Brown County Humane Society in New Ulm will soon be sitting pretty comfortably, thanks to plans for improving their current living conditions.

The recently received a $10,000 grant through the Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation out of Rochester.
Other groups had applied for the grant, but the shelter was in first place to nab it.

Humane society board of directors co-chairman Gerald Woodley said, "I got the letter in the mail and I thought, 'Oh no, it's our rejection letter and I opened it up and there it was. Ya know, a $10,000 check, so yeah, it's really exciting."

The money will go toward a number of projects including replacement of the washer and drier, dog exercise area, and additional wire fencing.
Aside from the grant and $8,000 a year from the county, the Humane Society relies solely on donations.
