ST. PETER, MINN. -

More expert witnesses took the stand on Thursday in a case involving a Mankato man accused of sexual assault.

John Fitzgerald Thomas is accused of raping a woman in North Mankato in February of last year.

On Thursday, a forensic scientist from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension testified that DNA recovered from the victim's body matches Thomas.

A registered nurse who performed a sexual-assault exam on the alleged victim testified as well.
On Wednesday, the defense made a legal challenge involving the reliability and handling of the DNA evidence. On Thursday, both witnesses testified they followed proper protocol when handling the evidence.

Thomas' trial is scheduled to begin April 11th.
