Jakes Rolling Up Wins On Wrestling Mat

Posted: Updated:

Tyler Jakes is having a stellar junior season on the wrestling mats for Mankato West.
Jakes is 25-1 coming into this week after three wins at Robbinsdale over the weekend.
Although he's only a junior, he's one of the biggest leaders the Scarlets have.
Jakes is ranked 3rd in class 2-A at 182 pounds after winning his weight class at both the Red River Riot, and the Chanhassen Holiday Tournament.
He has 14 pins for the season, and 65 falls in his career to rank 2nd in school history.
Head coach Dustin Buttell says it is his techniques that make him such a great wrestler.
Jakes recorded his 100th victory early this season and now sits at 120 for his career, just 45 from the school's all time mark.
While the milestones would be great, Jakes says his mind is on state.
If Jakes keeps rolling through the rest of the season, a trip to state should be a lock.
That's why he's our KEYC Scheels All-Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
