    The last time this building was occupied full-time by grades 4th-6th was the 2009 and 2010 school year. Since closing its doors, the school district saved $190,000. Superintendent, Dick Orcutt says,

When it comes to teaching the job can be rewarding and very demanding. Not only is he a 1st grade math teacher but he also is the elementary school's principal.
 
Golden Apple Recipient, Joel Timmerman says, "We are teaching something new all the time, it's a different experience everyday so that's what I really enjoy and that's what I like about being principal and a teacher."

Mr. Timmerman has 11 years of experience as a teacher and 11 years as a principal. Although this is only his second year teaching at Waterville, getting to do both jobs is a perfect balance that he enjoys. He's says he's grateful for the recognition but can't take all the credit.

Timmerman says, "It's not just me receiving the award, it's all the teachers in the building, everybody we all work hard together."
 
Teaching his students about math but also showing them that it can be fun.
