Although our warm weather has forced the cancellation of many winter activities, that isn't keeping a local sledding group from what they love.

"Riding with a Purpose" the 2012 Mud Dog Run. Mud dog they'll tackle their snowless route all to support a good cause.

The Mud Dog riders have participated in this annual ride for the past 22 years.

Rider and Participant, Terry Mattson says, "It's an exciting day with friends and it's great to be out celebrating winter."

However, this year they're missing a key ingredient to winter snow. That means they'll ride on the brown grass.

Mattson says, "You can't control Mother Nature but some of us have to get out and do what we love most and that's snowmobiling."

Despite the lack of snow these mud dog riders will press on and ride 25 miles to Fairmont.
In order to make the trip a successful one their plan is to use their old-school leaf spring snowmobiles and ride along in the ditch.

Pat Bourgeois, "There's not a lot of snow as you can see but you notice the little wind blowing drifts here we're going to try and follow that snowline south to Fairmont."

This year's ride will honor the life of a former Mud dog Snowmobile rider who passed away from cancer, now they're raising money to find to a cure.

Bourgeois says, " We're riding on their memory and we're riding for a cause."

Determined to make a difference for those battling cancer on their quest to keep the spirit of snowmobiling alive with no help from Mother Nature.

The Mud Dogs hope to raise at least $1500 with this ride if they do an anonymous donor will match it.

We can report the riders made the trip today it took them 4 and a half hours to make the trip to Fairmont.
