ST. PETER, MINN. -
Many traveled to St. Peter Saturday to take an icy jump that would leave them freezing for a reason.
It was the annual Polar Plunge. Miss Mankato, Hot 96–7's Stunt Monkey, and KEYC reporters Brittany Larson, Molly Miles and Mallory Peebles voluntarily jumped into the frozen lake to raise money for the Special Olympics.
And they were not alone, around 600 plungers jumped into the chilly waters all to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota.
Plunger Lisa Madson says, "Why not, it's a good cause. I can't personally give the money myself, but I can raise it and be dumb and jump."
Plunger Jeremy Powells says, "I did the polar bear plunge 2 years ago and I couldn't make it last year and I thought, ‘you know what dad–gummit I'm driving to MN, and I'm going to be there.' And I am so glad it is cold today."
With wind chill it was around four-degrees Saturday, but it was well worth it because this year the St. Peter polar plunge raised approximately $100,000.
