The last time this building was occupied full-time by grades 4th-6th was the 2009 and 2010 school year. Since closing its doors, the school district saved $190,000. Superintendent, Dick Orcutt says,
The JWP school board voted 4 to 2 Monday to sell the building for $1 to the Southern Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

Today Engineers are saying they found no sign of trouble during their last inspection of a pedestrian bridge in Minneapolis where a suspension cable broke loose Sunday night. Officials with Minneapolis Public Works, say the inspection in September turned up no problems with the 18 sets of cable that support the Bridge. It remains closed today. The Hiawatha Light Rail line also remains closed between two nearby stations. Public works says it's too soon to say when Hiawatha Avenue, the bridge and the light–rail stops will reopen.
