Construction for a big box store in New Ulm began yesterday, while city officials are welcoming the project that will create more traffic and revenue, other stores express their concerns.
Members of Senator Al Franken's office are criss crossing the state of Minnesota to get input on an upcoming piece of legislation.
The Democrat sent his team out to get feedback from residents across the area on the Farm Bill. Officials say hearings have started on the legislation.
Franken staffers say several listening sessions with the public are planned for the next two weeks going forward.
"We're getting not only getting information...but receiving critical feedback...to use in the debate going forward," said Al Juhnke, a Franken staffer.
Franken's office say agriculture comprises about 40 percent of the economy in Southern and Western Minnesota.
