DNR says Minnesota State Parks are Reporting an Increase in Reservations

Posted: Updated:

According to the DNR Minnesota state parks are reporting an increase in reservations.

Campers were eager to get outdoors, thanks to an early spring. Many booked overnight stays at Minnesota State Parks this year over Memorial Day weekend, more than they did last year. A four percent increase overall. Cabin stays are also showing a growing trend.

Assistant Manager at Flanderau State Park says, "We also have cabin campers that have become very popular. This gives an opportunity to families who maybe want to the camping experience but don't have all the equipment and don't want to go buy it right away. It gives them a chance to try out camping and see if they enjoy it."

The DNR says even with a higher percentage of people making reservations at campsites, up to one-third of campsites at Minnesota state parks are available at a first come first serve basis.
