Girls Dream Comes True When She Meets Barack Obama

Posted: Updated:

A young lady told me today that every Americans dream is either to be the president of the United States or meet him. Well one of those came true for her this Friday when President Barack Obama visited Minnesota.

Myra Soukup says, "There he is look, look, there he is. I got the feeling I had never had before."

16–year–old Myra Soukup has a rare genetic disorder that has required her to undergo 50 surgeries... but it hasn't held her back from having her dream come true.

Jane Soukup says, "I didn't let my expectations go too far. Because we weren't guaranteed that we we're going to get to see him."

Before they were escorted out onto the tarmac the Soukup family along with 50 other people at the Minneapolis St. Paul international airport were given instructions of things not to do, like have your hands in your pockets... and they were told don't expect autographs...

But the president changed his mind when he saw Myra.

Jane Soukup says, "He saw her and he made a bee line straight for her."

You can't see Myra in this shot but she's waving enthusiastically at Mr. Obama, what you can see is him walking straight to her. He immediately started signing her framed photo of him.

Soukup says, "I couldn't get the iPad working."

Not because she couldn't figure how to snap the pictures but because the president was standing so close. Not a problem many people get the chance to have.

Myra Soukup says, "This is the moment I was waiting for."

Jane Soukup says, "When the president tells you to do something you do it"

Myra says it's a great start to summer. She's a sophomore at St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye.
