Local Red Cross Sending Volunteers to Duluth

Posted: Updated:

The cleanup in Duluth has begun as the Northern part of the state finally gets a break from rain today.

Here in Mankato the local chapter of the American Red Cross is sending two volunteers to help out.

Hundreds of people are in serious need of help right now... From sinkholes devouring cars to water flooding basements, people in Duluth are suffering.

That's why our local South Central Minnesota Red Cross Chapter is eager to send volunteers, like Craig Dale. He's been volunteering with the Red Cross for nearly 20 years.

Red Cross Volunteer Craig Dale says, "Overall it's been really a great experience. It's good to help people out that really need the help."

Craig and another experienced volunteer are driving this Emergency Response Vehicle, up to the Northland Red Cross in Duluth, today. That Red Cross chapter says they have 61 positions that need to be filled by trained volunteers.

Sending help doesn't always mean sending lots of supplies because until they get there they don't know exactly what they'll need.

Red Cross Volunteer Craig Dale says, "You get there and a lot of people figure things out. You make it happen... Our concern is probably people up there are just hungry. They need nutrition and we try and help them any way we can."

Just two volunteers are hoping they can make a difference where hundreds are in need.
