MANKATO, Minn. -
Gregory Eugene Ward, a level three-sex offender, was supposed to move in to the Riverfront Inn in Mankato upon his release from prison today.
But late last Friday, word went out that Ward's move was called off.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections isn't releasing details, but after the public notification meeting last week, the DOC decided that it wouldn't work for Ward to live at the selected residence.
Ward's next move and his release date have yet to be determined.
But if Ward decides to come to Mankato at a different location, city police say they'll go through the same process as before.
Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Matt DuRose says, "Where he's going to go from here will be up to the Department of Corrections. If there is a new residence within the city of Mankato, they'll notify us and we'll have to put together the notification again. But we'll go down that road if and when he chooses to move to Mankato again."
This is the third residence in Mankato Ward had planned to move to.
A notification meeting was scheduled for late April for a move to South Broad Street. That address changed to downtown on Front Street.
But that notification meeting and move was canceled with no reason given by authorities.
