Minnesota Roads Prove Deadly In 2012 For Motorcyclists

A deadly start for motorcyclists in July has pushed the preliminary rider death count to 25. That number is well ahead of the pace set by this time last year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

At this rate, DPS projects 46 deaths for 2012, which would mark the first time since 2008 that rider deaths have increased. There were 42 rider deaths in 2011 and 45 in 2010. DPS officials say the increase could be due to record-high numbers of motorcyclists on Minnesota roads and early summer-like weather - resulting in an early start for riders on the roads.
