A North Mankato institution is forecasting a significant drop in enrollment for the upcoming academic year.
South Central College (SCC) officials say their school is predicting a decline of around 400 people. That number is expected to be split evenly between part-time and full-time students.
College spokespeople say the reason behind the expected decline is twofold.
"The projected drop in enrollment will be based upon two significant factors," said Keith Stover, SCC president. "The great economy in our area will not drive as many students to a two-year technical institution, and the unemployment benefits running out in the workforce centers."
Last year, about 6,100 total students attended SCC.
