Ethanol Plants In Southern Minnesota Still Running

Officials with Poet Refinery in Lake Crystal say they haven't cut back on ethanol production, and view the decision to halt production like in Little Falls as eliminating some of the competition.

Poet Biorefining general manager Chris Oehler says, "We've seen with the increase in corn prices that some ethanol plants have decided to reduce production or stop production so therefore the supply drops and for those of us that are in operation tend to use that to our benefit Poet Biorefining."

Corn Plus in Winnebago has been running at 75 percent capacity throughout 2012, and expects to continue at that rate for the foreseeable future. Local industry leaders say there is a glut in the ethanol supply, keeping the price low, even as corn goes up.
