MANKATO, Minn. -

This year's roller coaster harvest will be coming to an end much earlier than usual.

The planting season started early and hopes were high for a record-growing season. As the heat and drought put a damper on those hopes, the crops matured quickly.

In our area, the bulk of the harvest is usually done in October, but this year it is expected to be sooner.

Ag Expert Kent Theisse says, "September is going to be a big harvest month this year and I'm guessing unless the weather pattern would change dramatically, by mid October, harvest will be wrapping up in many areas because our crop is so advanced."

Theisse says that yields will vary in our area, but as a whole we have been fortunate, and should fair well with high crop prices.
