Mankato authorities are already getting results from beefed–up patrols aimed at underage drinkers.

Public Safety began those sweeps Thursday night as college students settled in for a new school year starting Monday.

Officials issued 28 citations for underage drinking... most occurring at three parties.

Commander Jeremy Clifton says, "Underage drinking citations were handed out as applicable, with that reminder that there's going to be a zero tolerance by our agency toward underage consumption because of the issues that go hand–in–hand with underage consumption."

Police patrols are getting a boost this year thanks in part to a four thousand dollar grant from the Invitation Health Institute of Minnesota; that money is paying for the 70 to 80 hours of extra alcohol enforcement.
