Pumped Up Pride Fest Popularity

Posted: Updated:
MANKATO , MINN. -

First time pride fest attendee Dalton Farley showed up two hours early to march in the South Central Minnesota's Pride Parade. Farley says, "There were people on the side clapping for us and cheering for us. It was great. It was awesome."

Organizer Jessica Flatequal says, "To see all the rainbows going down riverfront drive and all the wonderful people that come out to see us and clap, its just very moving for me."

Flatequal watched this event grow from a small picnic of proud people to what it is today. She thinks part of the reason for this year's pride population increase is due to the upcoming vote on the Marriage Amendment. Mankato resident Alex Megaw says, "We're being denied the same rights as everyone else."

Rebecca Allen from Robbinsdale says, "I think everyone is trying to stand together now."

Another reason for flocks flying to pride fest. Flatequal says, "We know how to throw a pretty good party."

This may have been Farley's first time. Farley says, "We're definitely coming back."

But it wont be his last.
