MANKATO, Minn. -

The Waseca County board is running out of time to reach an agreement with MnDOT about the fate of old highway 14.

MnDOT offered the county $13.2 million  from the County State Aid Turnback Fund to help return the road to an acceptable condition.

The county board says it needs more time to look at the data, but MnDOT has threatened to cut off funding to both Waseca and Steele County if they don't make a decision by October 12.

The county engineer says the sign it or lose it ultimatum puts the county at an unfair disadvantage.

Waseca County Attorney Nathan Richman says, "Multiple counties do turn backs each year with the state of Minnesota, this is the first set of counties that have lost access to the funding as a result of that deadline."

The county will address the issue again at their next meeting in two weeks.
