The New Ulm Cathedral volleyball team started the year a little slow, losing their first three, but they were against some tough opponents.
News 12 Sports Erick Lind says the Greyhounds have fought back toward the five–hundred mark,
Thanks to the play of middle hitter MacKinnon Elinz, and she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
New Ulm Cathedral's MacKinnon Ehlenz was best known for passing the volleyball as a sophomore.
Now as a junior she is much more aggressive as the Greyhounds middle hitter.
Ehlenz worked on improving throughout the off season with junior Olympics in the winter, and individual practices twice a week over the summer to get ready for her second year as a starter.
Now that she has the tools for both the front and back rows down, there are few times she actually leaves the court.
Coming into this week, Ehlenz converted 115 of her 119 serve attempts with 18 aces.
She also has 57 kills, 4 solo blocks, and 50 digs.
Her coach says if there was a passing–serve receive stat she would lead the team in that category.
And as long as Ehlenz keeps producing, the Hounds will have the best chance of winning and that will keep everyone from getting down.
That's why she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
