MCHS in Fairmont Assessing Community's Medical Needs

FAIRMONT, Minn. -

One of the Federal Affordable Care Act's requirements is that non–profit hospitals conduct a community health needs assessment every three years.

Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont has started the assessment by surveying and meeting with community members.

The goal of the process is to get a better idea of what the community thinks of their health care.

Hospital Administrator Bob Bartingale says, "We think we know as health care professional, but we need to understand from the community members, what are they looking at, what is working well, what isn't working well and how can we partner better with them in the future."

Surveys will collect information ranging from the availability of health care services, customer satisfaction, and needs for more services.

Once the data is collected, an advisory committee will help develop action plans to address health priorities for the future.
