MANKATO , MINN. -

A complete visual of the 26.2 mile course, with words of encouragement and coaching along the way are part of a new training video for the Mankato Marathon.

"You watch it and you're inspired," said Scott Stevens, a participant in the Mankato Marathon.

The production provides commentary by Cindra Kamphoff, a sport psychologist and associate professor at MSU.

Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau President Anna Thill says the online video is designed to get runners mentally prepared for race day.

The Mankato Marathon course video tells people what they should be thinking and saying to themselves while they're running the race.

"If you're a serious runner for the half and that full marathon, absolutely, it's definitely worth taking a peak at it," said Thill.

After watching the video, Stevens said he's inspired.

"There's a continual focus on staying in the moment, which for me is very important, because I tend to be a little bit of pessimist and sometimes I borrow trouble," Stevens said.

Stevens is running the full marathon this year and says watching the video yielded excellent advice.

"It provides confidence and I think that you take that and put it on a baseline of good training."

A separate video is also available online for the half-marathon course.
