Students at South Central College are restoring the exterior wall to the home by removing old paint and prepping it for a fresh coat of yellow paint. The project is a part of the Building Design and Energy Technology program. Mechatronics Technology Department Doug Laven says," They get to see an older home and how they did things 100 years ago we talked a little bit on houses like this were insulated and how people came back years later and insulated those houses so from an energy standpoint they get to see that as well."
Laven says this exercise gives students hands–on experience working, a chance to give back, and for some Lovelace fans a chance to revisit one of their favorite childhood books. Laven says, "There is two young ladies up there who were very familiar with series of books and they read them as young ladies with their moms and so they were looking around the house when we went inside and we'll probably do a better tour right after lunch we'll do a tour with these kids."
The Betsy House is the childhood home of Maud Hart Lovelace, author of the popular Betsy–Tacy series.
