A semi-trailer is struck by a large mobile crane. It happened just before noon on Highway 14, west of Lookout Drive. The semi was stopped for construction crews. State Patrol's initial investigation shows the crane rig was not prepared to stop in time - so, the driver swerved and the right-rear caught the semi.
Chris Fredrickson, says, "This is a well-marked construction zone and the flag person was standing right where the accident happened. So, if we just take a little extra time now towards the end of the construction season here and make sure everybody is in a safe spot."
When the two vehicles came to rest, the road was blocked. Eventually, the semi and the crane were moved to another location. MnDOT will inspect both vehicles to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the crash. Motorists are reminded to drive safely, especially in construction zones.
