Diesel prices have gone up 37 cents this year. This week the Midwest is experiencing the largest increase in prices with an average price of $4.04. However even with a strong increase, it remains below the national average by a few cents. Safety Director Clay Marches says, "We're doing quite a few things to try and counter balance that and get the best fuel mileage that we can."

Many trucking companies monitor fuel prices nationwide to find the lowest prices for traveling truckers. The newer trucks are designed to be more arrow dynamic and fuel-efficient. But truck owner and operator Bill Koffler says, these solutions barely put a dent in the increasing costs for fuel. Koffler says, "Fuel is the final result, the end result of what your income is."

He says in the past 20 years truck prices have doubled, fuel prices have tripled, and his base pay hasn't increased at all.
