HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) _ Minnesota State-Mankato's Chase Grant had three power-play goals and the Mavericks also scored short-handed to beat Alabama-Huntsville 4-1 on Friday in men's college hockey.
Grant had a goal in each period for the Mavericks (1-0-0). Matt Leitner assisted on all three goals and Grant assisted on Leitner's short-handed tally midway through the third period.
The Mavericks enjoyed a 41-25 edge in shots on goal. Mankato goalie Phil Cook made 17 of his 24 saves in the second period. He faced only two shots in the first.
Craig Pierce ruined Cook's shutout in the second, scoring the only goal for the Chargers (0-1-0) on the power play.
