Mankato East and Mankato West soccer teams were on a collision course for the girls section 2-A championship as the top two seeds.
That was until Saint Peter threw a wrench in the plans by upsetting the number one seeded Cougars on Tuesday.
That left the second seeded Scarlets as the home team this afternoon at Dakota Meadows, with the Saints looking to upset one more time and punch their ticket to state for the third straight year.
Mankato West would be the first to strike when Breeta Oxnard sends the cross that clears the head of Saints keeper Maria Siebels for a 1-0 Scarlets lead.
Saint Peter would even it before halftime when sophomore Emily Lind fakes out the defender, and then boots it past a diving Katie Lauer to it at one.
2nd half sees the Scarlets come out crashing the net with the ball pinballing around before Hannah Fox gets a shot off, but Siebels stops this one.
Later in the half, Marta Springer gets it to Lind who goes to the far corner to get it past an outstretched Lauer for the 2-1 lead.
West would keep the pressure on, but with the clock winding down they send one last attempt on net, Siebels grabs it, time expires,
And the celebration is on, as Saint Peter wins 2-1 to become the first team to win the section 2-A title for three straight years.
Something even the coach didn't think was possible after the way the season started.
