Mankato and North Mankato were awarded membership in Union Pacific's Train Town USA registry as part of the railroad's 150–year history.
Union Pacific Public Affairs Wesley Lujan says, "It builds our relationship in a symbolic sense to say hey we're recognizing you and you're recognizing our contribution to the local economy."
North Mankato Mayor Mark Dehen says, "I've always the trains they've brought us together and taken us apart at different times and its always been something to our community to have the trains rolling through and have them echoing down the valley with the whistles and it's always been a nice thing for our community."
Today Union Pacific also presented both mayors with a tri–metal coin, which symbolizes the strong relationship between the railway and the cities.
