NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -
The North Mankato Planning Commission makes no decision on a conditional use permit for the second phase of the Marigold development.
The proposed 6–story, 108 unit apartment complex needs a conditional use permit from the city because city code only allows 3 story buildings. The planning commission was supposed to make a recommendation to the city council, but instead they left it up to the council to decide for themselves.
Interim City Administrator Mike Fischer says, "They'll be look at both the economic viability of the project, do the developer insisting that it needs to be at least 6 stories to be economically feasible, but then also looking at some of the neighborhoods concern and other concerns that are brought forward."
The $17 million dollar development is proposed to be built next to the current 2–story Marigold complex.
The port authority did recommend the council approve the developer's tax–increment financing to pay for the project. The North Mankato city council will look at the issue at its meeting on November 5th.
