JANESVILLE, Minn. -

The fire that burned a marsh in Janesville earlier this month, may still be smoldering.

The Department Of Natural Resources investigating a report of smoke near the train tracks along Highway 14, west of Smith's Mill today –found a fire underground. The Janesville Fire Department was called and crews used water tankers and a small backhoe to fight the fire – which they had out by four o'clock. It hasn't been determined if this is a 'new' fire or a continuation of the Oct. 11th wildfire.

A spokesman for Canadian Pacific Railway says they are monitoring the situation closely – but their operations aren't affected.
