MSU Stuns #2 Minnesota With 5-3 Victory To Split Series

Posted: Updated:

The MSU men's hockey team came close to beating #2 Minnesota on Friday night in Minneapolis falling 3-2.  On Saturday, the Mavericks were able to pull off the upset on their home ice.  MSU started strong with the first two goals of the game.  The Gophers would come back and tie it at two early in the 2nd period on a power play goal.  The Mavericks would go back in front when Johnny McInnis beat Adam Wilcox just over midway through the 2nd, only to have the Gophers Nate Condon even it once again 24 seconds later ending the period tied at three.  It would stay that way until the final four minutes of the game when Dylan Margonari scored on a great feed from Max Gaede to put MSU in front 4-3.  The Mavericks would add an empty netter to win 5-3 for the series split, and their first WCHA victory of the year.
