Deer Hunting DNR Enforcement

NICOLLET COUNTY, Minn. -

Like much of the game hunters pursue, conservation officer Chris Howe says, hunting violations travel in packs. Howe says, "You might not have a call for a couple of hours and then you get three or four right on top of each other and I guess that's just Murphy's law."

And despite a few bad packs, Howe says most hunters follow the rules and welcome his visit. In fact most hunters I spoke with today said if anything, they'd like to see more officers.

Trespassing is one of the most common violations and according to the Minnesota DNR it's also one of the few that continues to rise in offenses. Howe says, "The time to ask is before you enter private property."

Aside from the occasional violation most of Howe's calls are questions dealing with the rules of hunting and the hunt itself. Howe says, "A very common question is have you seen any big ones."
