MANKATO, Minn. -

Dennis Dieken's campaign didn't start out exactly how he had planned when he missed the deadline to get his name on the ballot, but he says he continued to forge on.

Dieken says, "We did a lot of door-knocking and that was our primary goal, was to do the door-knocking and meet all of the people in the ward."

He says they made it through the ward, which is the biggest in Mankato, twice, "We went through the first time with an introduction card then we came through a second time as a reminder that I am a write in and that it would be very important to remember the name and write it on the ballot."

This was the first time Dieken has ran for public office, he says he wanted to help the people of the ward.

Dieken says, "I think I can improve the communication between the people in the ward and the council."

Tamra Rovney also has experience as a write-in candidate her first election. During this campaign season she said she was extremely busy not only with the campaign, but also attending meetings as council woman.

She will now serve her third term as city council woman. Rovney says, "I'm very passionate about the city of Mankato and I think that we can continue to grow and prosper and that's important to me, I grew up here and I want to continue to have Mankato be a vital economy that is welcoming to all people and to young families."
