MANKATO , MINN. -

Mark Laven and Chris Frederick are having a rematch for city councilman at large. The two went head to head in 2008 with Laven winning by a small margin. Laven says he and Frederick run similar clean campaigns. Laven says, "We want the community to be involved, engaged, communicate get more people to the table and make sure that we have more voices in the decision making process."

This year Laven publicly denounced both Minnesota Amendments. Laven says, "Quite frankly if I lose and those amendments fail, that's a win. I'm willing to sacrifice politically for that. The reality is those amendments don't need to be in our constitution. So if I don't become or continue on as a city council representative, that's fine but those amendments failing are pretty important."

Laven said if elected councilmen he wanted to continue working to make sure retirees and graduates stay in Mankato saying, "That vibrancy and that intellectual knowledge we want to keep in this community as much as we want to keep the young voices too."
