The state cross country meet was held this past weekend with several area runners involved the Class–A race.
News 12 Sports Erick Lind says United South Central's Emily Mantor was a top five finisher
which is a big improvement from where she started her career and she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
When Emily Mantor started running cross country for United South Central in middle school, her head coach says she was barely average...as a junior average is far behind her.
This season saw Mantor notch a big victory early when she took first in the class–A race at the Milaca Mega Meet with a personal record of 14 minutes 34.8 seconds.
That top spot helped the Rebels take first as a team in the meet as well.
She kept the wins coming, leading up to sections where she took first in 14 minutes 40.1 seconds to guarantee her a spot in the state meet.
Viesselman felt that Mantor could take a top five spot at state this year and that is what she did, taking 4th with a time of 14 minutes 39.5 seconds.
Mantor says she will keep working hard to see if she can top this finish as a senior, and she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
