MSU Keeps It Close, But Is Swept By #3 Denver

Posted: Updated:

The MSU men's hockey team at home trying for a split with 3rd ranked Denver in town once again, but the Pioneers off to a two goal lead again in the first period before Eriah Hayes lights the lamp on the power play to make it 2-1 heading to the first intermission.
It would stay that way until early in the third period when the Mavericks are on the powerplay again, and Josh Nelson rips one through traffic to the back of the net past Juho Olkinoura to tie it at two.
Just over three minutes to go in regulation when Chris Knowlton puts the Pioneers back in front with a shot from his knees to beat Stephon Williams for the 3-2 lead.
MSU would be on the powerplay though in the final minute and pull Williams for the extra attacker, and the Mavs did a lot of attacking, but couldn't get by Olkinoura, as Denver hangs on to win 3-2 and sweep the series.
