MSU Football Team Finishes Perfect Regular Season With Rout

Posted: Updated:

While the high school football playoffs are underway, the Division Two college football playoffs don't start for another week.
The MSU Mavericks were hoping to lock up a number one seed in their region and a first round bye this afternoon when they hosted the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
Upper Iowa started with the ball, but it was MSU on the board first when Andy Pfeiffer ran in a touchdown from seven yards out...7-0 Mavericks.
MSU forced the Peacocks to punt and on their 2nd possession, it is Connor Thomas 27 yards later into the endzone 14-nothing Mavs.
The Mavericks wouldn't let up, getting the ball back on another Upper Iowa punt and on the 2nd play Jon Wolf keeps it and runs 47 yards to paydirt, and just like that 21-0 MSU...Wolf became the 2nd active player with over one thousand career rushing yards to go along with Pfeiffer on that run.
Still in the first quarter, Adam Thielen already had one punt return for a touchdown called back because of a penalty...there is no laundry this time as the senior wide receiver returns it 70 yards for a 28-nothing lead.
MSU would keep the pedal down as Mankato East grad Kenthen King puts up the Mavs' 10th touchdown of the game...his first of the year.
Sam Brockshus became the all-time career scoring leader earlier in the game, but this extra point ties the most points ever scored by MSU to go up 70-7.
Acting head coach Aaron Keen gets the Gatorade bath as the clock winds down, and the Mavericks celebrate as they win the NSIC title outright completing the school's first perfect regular season at 11-0.
