A rural Lake Jefferson community is mourning the loss of one of their own. Carbon Monoxide poisoning claims the life of a local man and sends another to the hospital.
Safety officials responded to a call from a rural Cleveland home yesterday when two men were found unconscious in the garage. When responders first arrived at the scene they treated the victims for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.
Sheriff Tom Dougherty, "It's tough for a great person to be lost in the matter he was lost." 90-year-old Tony Kaisershot died yesterday from what authorities believe is carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department says Kaisershot and 83-year-old Clayton Bock had been working on a Farm-All tractor late yesterday morning. Sheriff Thomas Doherty refers to his death as a silent killer.
Thomas Doherty says, "Anytime in a closed environment where there is fumes coming from the exhaust from a motor vehicle you're looking at CO2 exposure and Carbon Monoxide can usually take the life of a person."
Kaisershot's wife found the pair lying on the garage floor. Bock was hospitalized. Kaisershot could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kasiershot was a WWII vet and was very active with the Le Center color guard.
In a statement from Kasiershot's family, they want everyone to know he was married to the love of his life Violet for 69 years and was the kind of man who'd give the shirt off his back.
Thomas Doherty says, "Mr. Kasiershot was well known throughout the community and he was a very nice guy and the family lived out on Lake Jefferson for years and years and it's just a tragic loss to a great gentleman."
Clayton Block was his best friend, whose recovery they pray for. Bock was flown to the Hennnepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He is currently listed in satisfactory condition.
