MANKATO, Minn. -

It's time to break out the wallets, because it's Give to the Max day.

The annual event challenges Minnesotans to raise as much money as possible for charities, nonprofit organizations, and schools in 24 hours, and groups that raise the most will get some extra cash from the organizer, "Give Minnesota". One of the groups that will benefit from today, the YWCA says the event is great because it encourages people to donate now.

Development Director Kelley Olson says, "You might get something over email, or get something over mail and think yes, I want to give to that organization, because the YWCA is so awesome, but you might put it aside and think I will do that later, and sometimes it might get lost in the pile, but today it creates some urgency because your organization might win some money."

Last year, almost 5,000 people donated roughly $13.6 million to 4,000 nonprofit's statewide during the day. If you would like to get in on the giving, go to Give Minnesota's webpage.
