MANKATO , MINN. -
Chefs armed with their best recipes did battle today in Mankato as part of the city's annual chili fest. All proceeds go towards the Mankato Veteran's Memorial Place and research for the Minnesota Rett Syndrome. Rett syndrome is a complex neurological disorder that affects the growth and development of the brain. Chili Fest Planner Matt DuRose says, "It's a great event its family friendly the money goes to two very worthy causes it helps raise awareness for the Rett syndrome and for the veterans as well, and its just a good way to come out and show support for the community."
More than 21 teams entered their chili in the competition. In the past five years the Chili Fest has raised more than $60,000. Organizers hoped to raise more than $15,000 at today's fundraiser.
