The Australian city of Brisbane was hit by a severe storm on Saturday, leaving up to 6,000 homes without power and bringing down trees.

Local media reported that around 4,000 lightning strikes were recorded during the storm.

The central business district was battered by strong winds and heavy rain.

In the suburbs, cars had been washed away from where they were parked.

Fallen trees brought down power lines and damaged buildings.
