MANKATO, MN -

Mankato fire crews responding to a house fire Monday afternoon.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. on the 100 block of Lincoln Street. The homeowner called 9-1-1 after smelling a burning smell and then seeing smoke coming from the attic.

Mankato Public Safety, Fire Division Deputy Director Jeff Bengtson, says, "We came out and discovered that there was a small fire in the attic. Crews 'overhauled' it, made sure it was completely extinguished. The homeowner had shut-off the power before we had gotten here - which was a help and also ensured that everybody was out before we got here."

The homeowner suspects the cause of the fire is electrical. No one was injured. The fire was put out in about a half an hour.
