Santa doing the honors flipping on the lights around 6:30 Friday night, turning Sibley Park in Mankato into a winter wonderland for the opening ceremonies of the Kiwanis Holiday Lights display.
After weeks of setup, and months of planning, volunteers created a one million–light display in the park.
The Kiwanis Lights Project is 100 percent volunteer driven and took the work of over 1,000 people.
The hundreds in attendance really got the Christmas spirit going.
North Mankato Mayor Mark Dehen says, "This is a great event. We've got all these kids down here looking at a million lights. Thank you to Mankato Foundation and CHS for sponsoring this and for the Kiwanis for putting it together. What a great, awesome night for everyone to come out and enjoy it."
Friday night marked the city's first ever Holiday Lights Parade through the park, complete with Grand Marshals, live music, and lots of lighted floats. News 12's own Lisa Cownie served as a judge for tonight's inaugural parade.
The lights will be on at Sibley Park from 5:00 to 9:00 Sunday through Thursday evenings and 5:00 to 10:00 PM Friday and Saturday until December 31. It is free to see, but donations are encouraged.
