LITTLE FALLS, MN -

A Minnesota man has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two teenagers he says broke into his home. 64-year-old Byron David Smith is charged in a criminal complaint filed this morning. The complaint quotes Smith telling investigators he shot 17-year-old Nicholas Brady Schaffel and 18-year-old Haile Kifer as they came down into his basement. He told them he was afraid the teens might have a weapon. Smith claims it was self-defense, but authorities say his actions exceeded a reasonable self-defense. Smith claims his home has been broken into several times before. The two victims were cousins.
