Holiday Travel Winds Down

Posted: Updated:
MANKATO , MINN. -

If you were one of the estimated 43.6 million travelers, you know just how busy it was out there.

Roads might still have heavier traffic, as AAA estimates have 25% of people who traveled will return home today.  Jacalyn Sticha, Sgt. Minnesota State Patrol says, "We might see a little elevated traffic, but I think most people were on their way home Sunday Afternoon."

With the added traffic, accidents become more prevalent.  Across the state, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says 338 accidents had property damage, 53 personal injury accidents, 84 DWI arrests, and there was one fatal accident during the holiday period.

Closer to home, things looked better. No fatalities, two DWI arrests, and one injury accident in the Mankato area.

Sgt. Sticha reminds us, "We have gotten through Thanksgiving, we need to keep all of our skills and reminders in check because the holidays aren't over yet and the most important thing always is to get our families home safe."

Troops will be on the increase during the holiday season.
