MANKATO , MINN. -
The Kiwanis Holiday Lights Display at Sibley Park in Mankato is bringing in impressive crowds. Over the weekend they had a two–mile long line of cars waiting to check out the lights. Police directed traffic to ensure safety. Organizers say aside from the long line, the weekend was a total success. Kiwanis board member Kyle Mrozek says, "People were patient. General response was, 'hey it was a long wait but it was well worth it', and tat's music to our ears."
Kiwanis Holiday Lights president Scott Wojcik says, "To see the faces on the people when we threw the switch of Friday night and lit up that park I to hear the oohs and ahhs it was definitely worth the amount of effort we put into it."
An estimated 2,500 people attended the lighting ceremony and parade on Friday. The holiday lights is a free event, but they are collecting non–perishable food items and money for the local food shelf. So far they have collected more than 2,300 pounds of non–perishable food items. You can check out the lights any night of the week until December 31st.
