MANKATO, Minn. -

MSU Mankato student switched out their textbooks for children's books Tuesday.

It was part of literacy day, where over 250 local kindergarten students spent the day listening, learning and making projects based on the Skippyjon Jones children's picture book series.

The goal of the day--help students develop a love for reading.

MSU Education Student Jessica Raymond says, "The more we can encourage kids to find the fun in it and see that there are books out there for everybody that they are going to have fun reading that they are going to learn to love they are going to read a lot more."

The day is also a great opportunity for students in their first semester of professional teacher education classes to interact with the young children and try their hand at teaching prepared lessons.
