Mankato -
As temperatures sink for the winter months, the Mankato Area United Way's thermometer measuring fundraising efforts continues to climb. It's been Just over two months since the 2013 campaign kicked off, and the United Way is just under 60-percent of meeting their historic fundraising goal of $2 million dollars. With a quarter of people in the area living in poverty, the United Way says this money goes a long way. Officials say corporate giving is up 6% this year, which also has a domino effect on giving from employees. The United Way began in Mankato in 1931, when it raised $6,000. Since then more than $46 million has been raised.
