Instead of sleeping in or going to the mall on the weekends Emily Lewandowski volunteers for the American Legion. Lewandowski says, "It makes me feel good to give back and to help others."
Securing her spot on the nice list, today she collects hats, mittens, and scarves for Santa's Closet, an organization that provides gifts to less fortunate children. Auxiliary member Catherine Rossing says, "Emily is like an inspiration to a lot of kids, she's very dedicated, devoted to what she does. She's not afraid to try things and she wants to make a difference and get other kids involved."
President of her town's new American Legion Junior Auxiliary organization, she keeps a special place in her heart for all veterans. For Veterans Day she dropped off more than 200 handwritten cards thanking veterans for their service. Dedicating her time and heart to others, Auxiliary members say without Lewandowski today's event wouldn't be possible. Junior Auxiliary Coordinator Kathy Hempel says, "He actually had tears in his eyes, he was so thankful."
Moments like that are what Lewandowski says makes it all worth it. Lewandowski says, "It's those small moments that make everything worth it."
