Concerns Over New Standardized Testing

Posted: Updated:
MANKATO , MINN. -

A Minnesota math test that will soon be tied to graduation has some educators wanting to drop the requirement all together. The concern is that nearly one–third of high school students could be denied their diploma for not passing the test. Mankato Area Schools Superintendent Sheri Allen says the task force is reviewing the state testing practices to help eliminate this potential gap. Allen says, "It's not changing the accountability, it's making sure that there's different measures to show what they can do."

The task force held numerous meeting over the summer. Some of the policy recommendations for better testing included early assessments, policy changes and cost recommendations.
